Weta Workshop

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

Let your imagination run wild to create the ultimate fantasy figure. The Royal Armouries Museum and Weta workshop are pleased to throw down the gauntlet to fantasy fans everywhere.

The task is hard, but the rewards are great - and only the very best will prevail.

We are asking you to create the ultimate fantasy figure and to design the weaponry they carry with them too. Your inspiration can come from anywhere and the character can be from the past, the present or even the future.

The choice of medium is entirely up to you, drawn, computer-generated, or modelled to create a 3-D interpretation, the choice is yours.

When you've created your character, simply complete the entry form and submit a JPG image of your fantasy creature of no larger that 10MB by 16th October 2008.

Your character will be judged by the man who began the whole Weta phenomenon. He is the multi Oscar(r) winning Richard Taylor, and if you can impress him you'll be sure that your character has all the makings of a real icon.

What Richard will be looking for is a character that is derived totally from your imagination. That's not to say it has to be a character who would appear in any of the Weta films, though - your imagination and choices really have no boundaries.

If you're the person who goes further than anyone else in impressing Richard, you'll receive some amazing prizes.

Firstly, you'll receive a limited edition Weta Ray Gun - or "Dr Grordbort's Infallible Aether Oscillator" to give it its official name. This full scale antique-styled sci-fi weapon has been meticulously built for Weta by master model-maker David Tremont. These are much sought-after by collectors everywhere so it really is a prize to treasure.

You will also enjoy a VIP visit to the Royal Armouries Museum in November including a night for two in a Leeds hotel, dinner for two and a guided tour of the exhibition by curator Bob Woosnam-Savage. The winner must plan, book and pay for their own travel arrangements to and from Leeds, UK.

You'll hear fascinating stories behind the creation and use of many of the pieces and have the chance to quiz your guides as they show you round. Then, as a souvenir of the tour, you'll receive an exclusive selection of merchandise to take home with you.

Exhibitions like this don't come around very often and competitions with prizes like these are rarer still. So now it's time to get your imagination to work and who knows where it will take you...
